Superman is a fictional superhero created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. The character first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938 and has since become an iconic figure in American pop culture.

Superman's alter ego is Clark Kent, a mild-mannered reporter for the Daily Planet newspaper. Superman possesses incredible superhuman abilities, including super strength, speed, and durability, as well as the ability to fly and shoot heat rays from his eyes.

Superman's powers come from his Kryptonian heritage, as he was born on the planet Krypton and sent to Earth as a baby by his parents, Jor-El and Lara. On Earth, he is raised by the Kents and taught to use his powers to help others.

Superman is often depicted as a symbol of truth, justice, and the American way, and has been adapted into numerous media formats, including television shows, movies, and comic books. Some of the most notable adaptations of Superman include the 1978 film "Superman," starring Christopher Reeve, and the more recent DC Extended Universe films, including "Man of Steel" and "Justice League."
