"Firestorm" is a 1996 action film directed by Dean Semler and starring Howie Long, Scott Glenn, and William Forsythe. The film follows a group of smokejumpers, or firefighters who parachute into remote areas to fight wildfires, who are tasked with rescuing a group of people trapped by a massive firestorm.
The film received mixed reviews upon its release, with some praising the action sequences and special effects, while others criticized the formulaic plot and lack of character development. Despite this, "Firestorm" has developed a cult following over the years and is considered a classic of the 1990s action genre.
Howie Long, a former NFL player, starred in the film in one of his few acting roles. He played the lead character, Jesse Graves, a tough and experienced smokejumper who leads the rescue mission. Scott Glenn played Wynt Perkins, the veteran firefighter who trains the smokejumpers and advises them during the rescue mission. William Forsythe played the villainous Randall Alexander, a criminal who uses the firestorm as a distraction to rob a nearby casino.
The film is known for its thrilling action sequences, which include intense firefighting scenes, helicopter chases, and explosions. It also features a score by composer J. Peter Robinson, which was praised for its dramatic and adrenaline-fueled sound.
